Glasgow, known as the “Dear Green Place,” is home to an impressive array of 90 parks and gardens. This article will recommend some of the city’s most beautiful and historic parks, all accessible via the City Sightseeing Glasgow’s Red and Yellow Tour Bus. This convenient route connects you directly to several key green spaces and cultural landmarks across Glasgow.
Glasgow Green (Stop 5 Red Tour or Stop 7 Yellow Tour)
Glasgow Green is the the city’s oldest and most iconic public park. Hop off at Stop 4 on the Red route or 7 on the Yellow Tour Route to explore this expansive green space, rich with history. While here, make sure to visit The People’s Palace and Winter Gardens. The People’s Palace provides a fascinating look at the social history of Glasgow, and the Winter Gardens feature a beautiful Victorian glasshouse filled with exotic plants. Both attractions are free to visit. (Please note this People’s Palace is closed for refurbishment from April 2024 until further notice)
Kelvingrove Park (Stop 13 Red Tour)
Kelvingrove Park is a true Victorian gem right in the heart of Glasgow’s West End, offering scenic walks along the Kelvin River and views of stunning architecture in the nearby Park Circus. Stop 15 on our red route will take you to University Avenue. From here, it’s a short 10 minute walk along Byers Road to the Botanic Gardens. The Gardens feature beautiful Victorian glasshouses, including the renowned Kibble Palace, which houses an array of tropical plants and sculptures. This peaceful, green haven is perfect for an afternoon of relaxation and exploration.
Bellahouston Park and House for an Art Lover (Stop 14 Yellow tour)
Bellahouston Park, accessible via Stop 21. This vast park is home to the House for an Art Lover, a masterpiece of Charles Rennie Mackintosh design. The House combines art gallery, exhibition space, café, and shop, offering a rich cultural experience set within beautiful grounds. The park is also home to the world-renowned Burrell Collection, which has recently undergone extensive renovations.
